According to Massachusetts law a landlord may not refuse to rent an apartment to someone because of the person's race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, marital status, religion, age, sexual orientation, or military background, or because the person is blind, hearing impaired or needs a guide dog. With some exceptions, it is also illegal to refuse to rent to someone with children. M.G. L.c.151B.
